Privacy policy
This privacy policy sets out how PlasmaDNA.net uses and protects any information that you submit when you use this website.
What we collect
In the registration process, we request and collect the following information:
Note that the e-mail address is used as a username, and needs not be a valid e-mail address. However, to have access to full functionality of the site (for example, forgotten password recovery), it is suggested to use a valid address. This address will not be used to send unwanted e-mails and will not be shared with any third parties (see below)
In addition, the following information is collected automatically for each registered user:
- The country from where the user first registered (based on the IP address)
- The number of times the user logged in the site
- The date of the user's last login
- The total amount of space (kilobases of DNA sequences) used by the user
Finally, the DNA sequences generated by the user during the normal use of the web application are stored in a database.
What we do with the information we gather
The e-mail address will be used only for certain website functionalities, for example password recovery or answers to feedback or questions. No unsollicited e-mail will be sent. It is possible for users to send anonymous feedback if no response is expected (or wanted). The e-mail will not be shared with any third parties.
We collect the additional information (country, logins, size used,...) to understand the metrics/popularity/workload of the website and provide you with a better service.
The DNA sequences are stored for the user's convenience and remote storage of the work performed, and will never be accessed by the site owners (barring exceptional troubleshooting procedures, and at the request of user only) or any third parties. Measures are put in place to prevent sequences (either fragments, domains, primers) to be accessed or manipulated by users that did not create them. Users can delete sequences they have created at any time, and the deletion from the database is immediate.
Security
We are committed to ensuring that your information is secure. In order to prevent unauthorised access or disclosure we do our best to follow best practice procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online.
Cookies
Cookies are used by the PlasmaDNA website for the purposes of the login system only, to allow the user to add, view and manipulate sequences, and to avoid other users to access his/her work. No cookies are used for tracking purposes. PlasmaDNA.net does not include third-party cookies.
Links to other websites
Our website may contain links to other websites of interest. However, once you have used these links to leave our site, you should note that we do not have any control over that other website. Therefore, we cannot be responsible for the protection and privacy of any information which you provide whilst visiting such sites and such sites are not governed by this privacy statement.
Controlling your personal information
We will not sell, distribute or lease your personal information to third parties unless we are required by law to do so. It is possible for the user to delete his/her profile at any time after registration. In this case, all information, including all sequences entered or created by the user, is immediately deleted.
Changes to the privacy policy
If we decide to change the privacy policy of PlasmaDNA.net, we will post the changes on this page. The current policy was drafted on the 25th of February 2013 and never modified.
